Describe a couple you know who have a happy marriage

You should say:

How long they have been married

And explain what do you think of them

Answer:

Well, I know several happy couples out there including my parents who has a great relationship, however, today I want to talk about my cousin and his wife. You know, they have been married for almost twenty years now and whenever I see them they always seem to be cheerful and still in-love. I must say that there are bunch of reasons for their healthy relationship. First thing I want to mention is that, they have a lot of common interest such as their passion in music. Whenever I go to their home, I frequently watch them play music together, in fact, they are a perfect combination when it comes to this matter because my cousin plays piano while my sister-in-law plays guitar and both can sing very well. The most interesting thing is that, they both work in the same hospital because they are both professional doctors. However, the most important thing is that they share the household chores together, they work as a team as they help each other at home on a quite regular basis. My cousin cooks delicious food while my sister-in-law  wash the dishes. So I get the impression that they treat each other very well. In addition to that, I’ve noticed that my cousin always drives his wife to and from work every single day. All in all, there’s no doubt that they’re really happy together, and I think they’re actually great role models on keeping a marriage strong and healthy.

  1. What wedding gifts are popular in China?

Answer: In my home country, money is the most well-known gift in a wedding. Let me elaborate my answer,  Chinese people are wise when it comes it to gift giving due to the reason that they want the receiver to spend the money on things they need and like. Instead of giving them things like clothes or appliances, sometimes these things don’t suit people and might end up giving it to others or stocking it at home. Another point I want to tell you about is, it’s part of our tradition. You know, we put the money in a red envelope called “Hongbao” to give the receiver a good luck and fortune. So basically, couples receive plenty of money during their wedding day.

  1. What do you think is the perfect age for marriage?

Answer: That’s an interesting question! Well, In my personal point of view, 27 to 30 years old is the best age for marriage for the reason that people have stable job and possibly be financially stable. Generally, most people graduate from the university before 25 years old and by then they could start hunting a job. One more thing is that, being a young parent can connect to their children when it comes to modern society situations. You know, now a days most parents have generation gap which causes misunderstanding of lifestyle and interest. Take me as an example, my dad often scolds me for hanging out with my friends every weekends, as a result, it leads to a small argument.

Answer: It is no doubt that paddy plant is the most essential plant in my country because rice is the main food in China. You know,  people in China eat rice or noodles as part of their heavy meal. According to my history class, in ancient China people found a solution to feed their stomach using some basic ingredients, it is then they invented fried rice which has become the most common part of Chinese people’s meal especially in the Southern area. I can tell that, it is not only an affordable meal but also a healthy meal as you can add vegetables and some seasoning to make it flavorful.  So I have the thought that if there is no enough supply of rice, most people will starve especially the needy ones.

First thing is that, farming is a difficult task, it takes so much energy and patience. As we know, farming is a physical job where it requires you to carry heavy crops and equipment, dig the soil, water the plants, etc. Another point here is that, they only earn less but still they are contented of their life. They feel blessed when they have good and abundant crops as they can make a living and serves as their source of food as well. So, I must say that the government must also pay attention to our farmers’ need because they serve an important role in our industry. Without them we will have no supply of vegetables and fruits.

  1. What are the differences between the programs that young people enjoy watching and the programs that old people enjoy watching?

Answer: I would say that the differences between their preference is distinct. Let me start off with young people, young people are attached with Korean drama series since they are great at challenging viewers’ thinking by exposing them to new ideas and humanizing people who hold unpopular perspectives. I can give you my friend as an example, she is addicted to Korean pop stars because she finds them physically attractive  and she gets attached to the story, so whenever she watches their series, she feel the chills which makes her want to watch more. On the contrary, I guess senior people would prefer watching reality TV shows because of the reason that there’s always something new to talk about. It’s funny how one forty-five minute program can spawn half a dozen conversations. These conversations take a meaningful turn and lead to a discussion that might have never happened otherwise. Take my grandma as an example, she usually watch the Ellen show because she is fascinated with the host and is interested with the topics discussed during the show.

Answer: Fashion is very essential for millennials as it represents their lifestyle and well-being. As you know,  in China young people normally wear skirts or shorts and tank tops, they usually show much of their skin because to them they find it cute and sexy. I have a thought that, this fashion trend they have is like a revenge of their strict custom as they are known to be conservative especially in ancient times. On the contrary, adults dress according to their age, they wear casual dress or shirt and jeans with a sense of style. Most likely, you can see them wearing branded bags or shoes to showcase their sense of fashion. You know, I have seen famous Chinese stars who have a great sense of style on TV, the look fancy!

Answer: Impulsive buying is very common for Chinese. Can you believe that people in my country usually buy clothes almost every week or once in two weeks. This is due to the fact that in China you can buy affordable clothes in the shopping mall or online. Once they get attracted to a certain piece of clothing they will just purchase it in an instance. Another reason for this is because clothes have become a basic necessity especially for women. Especially that we’re influenced with fashion industry, more and more women are too curious about how they look, being fashionable is just part of their well-being

LATEST PART 1 – TIME MANAGEMENT

  1. How do you organize you time?

Answer: Well, this is a little embarrassing because I am bad at time management, therefore, what I do to arrange my schedule is to list the tasks in hand in the morning, and do them in a row in the daytime. 1. Do you think young people organize their time in the same way?

Answer: I don’t think so, I disagree that young people have similar way of managing their time. That is for the main reason that organizing time varies from different people, some people have different job and life priorities. 1. Do you like it when others are late?

Answer: This question is very obvious, of course, I hate when others are late especially when it take half an hour or more for them to arrive. This is for the reason that it is a waste of time and it is tiring to wait for nothing. This situation happened to me last week, I and my friend was suppose to meet at 3pm but she arrived an hour later. To my frustration, I had her pay the movie ticket and the food. LATEST PART 3 – CAFÉ

  1.  Why do people go to coffee houses?

Answer: Well, as you know, there are more and more people in coffee shops now a days and there are several reasons for this. The first reason I can think of is coffee shops provide convenience on your leisure time. For instance, you don’t have to clean the house before someone comes to visit, just go to a coffee shop and enjoy with no pressure. Another reason for that is you can pass the time in a coffee shop, as long as you drink the coffee you can stay as long as you want. There are no waitresses rushing you off so that they can seat someone else. Also, the couches are comfy and the coffee is usually good. Take me as an example, I usually go to the coffee shop when meeting my friends, I won’t get bored and I can enjoy myself while waiting.

  1. 2. What are the differences between cafes and restaurants?

Answer: I have to say that, the difference between a cafe and a restaurant is usually not very distinct. First of all,  a cafe generally offers a light, casual environment, wherein you can stay outside, sip on beverages and eat lunch or snacks. Here’s an example, most coffee shop in China has cozy environment usually situated in a discreet location where people can sit, eat, drink and chat with each other. As opposed to a restaurant, it is a dining establishment that usually offers much more varied service, a formal environment, and is designed around the idea of the ‘meal’, usually dinner. Such as Taco bell, it is a famous restaurant where they serve huge meals from breakfast to dinner course.

  1. Do Chinese people like to drink coffee?

Answer: Well, I would say yes, but probably not as much as the many Westerners crowing about the ever-increasing number of Starbucks. This is for the fact that, most traditional Chinese folks prefer drinking tea as it is healthier, it cleanses our internal organs and has more health benefits than coffee. As a matter of fact, in most Chinese restaurants, they serve tea as a complimentary drink. On the other hand, there are also Chinese people who love coffee as it seems to be addictive and can make their mood better. An example for that is my father, he cannot start his day without drinking coffee because it gives him energy and positive mood whenever he drinks it.

  1. Do Chinese people like social activities?

Answer: We cannot deny that people in China love to partake in a wide range of Chinese sports, games, and leisure activities, which you can observe during a stroll in the park or at traditional festivals or competitions. The first point here is that Chinese people like to spend their free time outdoors as much as possible. For instance, parents will take their children outside. You will find Chinese parks full of people, both young and old, from dawn to dusk, engaging in various Chinese sports and leisure activities. Another point here is that Chinese people are very sociable and would rather spend time with others than alone. The activities they enjoy in their free time also usually involve some movement, keeping them more active and healthier than many of their Western counterparts. Common examples of these activities are having a family picnic, a family outing on the beach, or a club party.

Here’s the second batch of PLACES in Part 2 that corresponds to this theme:

  • Describe a quiet place
  • Describe a cafe which you have been to
  • Describe a meal (dinner or lunch) you would like to have
  • Describe an occasion that you received a good service from a restaurant or shop.
  • Describe a kind of foreign food you have had
  • Describe an experience that you are not allowed to use your mobile phone

Cue Card:

Describe a cafe which you have been to

You should say:

Where this cafe is

What type of food the cafe has

Why you go to this cafe

And explain why you like this cafe/ why this café impresses you

Answer:
To begin with, I like going to go to public places such as a coffee shop/ café/ restaurant/ bar during my leisure time. A friend of mine, David, opened his own cafe which is situated in an open-air rooftop in one of the huge buildings in my hometown. If I can vividly remember, he first opened this shop three months ago, I was amazed of his café because my friend David put a lot of effort into his wonderful rooftop garden. The cool thing about this place is that it’s on the 30th stories and the most interesting part of it is the 360-degree view. In addition to that, the place is filled with plenty of flowers and plants so the cafe looks really colorful and natural. I can say that, it’s a great place to go on a sunny weekend afternoon because you can sunbathe while being surrounded by flowers and plants. Hence, I like to go there on the weekends because it’s really peaceful, I can read a book, drink some tea and just gaze at the city view. In my mind, this garden is really cozy where you can avoid the hustle and bustle of the city life.  To sum up, it’s one of my favorite cafe when I’m in town which I highly recommend to people and my friends when they visit my homeland.

Answer Overview:

Cafe topic is suitable for the PLACE theme. You can use the details provided above to describe your cue card, however, you must fit-in the right key points according to what’s given to you. For instance, you are given a topic to “Describe a quiet place”, you can replace some information above to suit your subject. Same goes with the other cue cards.
